Jacob Van Lunen started playing Magic in 1995. Since the beginning, deck design has been Jacob’s favorite part of the game. Van Lunen played primarily as a casual player until 2007, when he used an innovative Sliver draft strategy to win Pro Tour San Diego 2007, alongside his teammate Chris Lachmann.
As the author of Building on a Budget, Van Lunen designed hundreds of unique archetypes including the original Pyromancer Ascension deck. He currently pens Perilous Research, a mothership column that analyzes snapshots of Magic Online metagames.
