Our last What’s the Play? was a little different than most, as there was a guaranteed kill available. Those are interesting to dissect as well, so let’s take a look at the scenario.
Click to immensify.
The only thing holding you back from using Become Immense + Temur Battle Rage to kill the opponent is that nefarious Vengeful Pharaoh lurking in the opponent’s graveyard. But thanks to some neat combat shenanigans, we can win despite the mummy’s curse.
Play Blood Crypt untapped. Attack with both creatures. No matter how the opponent blocks, cast Become Immense and Temur Battle Rage on the Death’s Shadow. Assign all first strike damage to the blocker (or blockers), but do not trample over. The Pharaoh doesn’t trigger, and all the trample damage from normal damage kills the opponent.
Good job to those who caught the solution—it was an interesting spot, and illustrative of how important it is to know all kinds of rules interactions.
Have a sweet scenario of your own? If you think you can stump the readers (and me) then send it to LSV@ChannelFireball.com*, or via Twitter—just send a screenshot @LSV and I’ll be happy to take a look!
