Let me start things off by saying I’m not totally sure what to make of today’s deck. It managed to go 5-0 in an MTGO Standard League in the hands of MAROBORO and it has some really powerful cards, so let’s dive in.

On the surface, we have a Jeskai deck. Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy, Mantis Rider, and Soulfire Grand Master are some solid staples of the archetype. Throw in some Dig Through Times and some removal spells and you’re going to have a pretty solid deck.

Ojutai’s Command goes great with early drops, not to mention all of the other modes are quite powerful. Dragonmaster Outcast was formerly a staple in Jeskai decks before getting pushed to the side. It’s a mediocre draw early in the game that essentially does nothing until you get to 6 lands in play. There are already so many good threats in the deck that a bad draw in the early game (except to discard to Jace) was a pretty big liability.

Dragonmaster Outcast can be found with Dig Through Time, giving it a bit more purpose, but it also can be brought out with Collected Company. Company is great at both finding Jace and then letting Jace flip to flashback the Company. And if we’re going to be splashing green in our Jeskai deck, let’s throw a full playset of Savage Knuckleblades in there to fight side by side with our Mantis Riders.

The real big boon from splashing green? Heir of the Wilds! Wait, what? I have no idea, but I guess it’s a solid 2-drop? No, really, I have no idea, but check out the list:
