Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa Wins Worlds

Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa, already considered to be one of the three greatest Magic players of all time, won the 26th World Championship. He adds the title to an impressive resume which includes two Pro Tour wins and a Hall of Fame ring. PVDDR is also one of the hottest players on the planet right now, as this Worlds marks his fourth straight top finish.

Paulo found himself locked for the Top 8 early on Day One. Due to the structure of the tournament his four wins allowed him to make it to Day Two. At the end of Day Two, he found himself in the Top 4 with Marcio Carvalho in the Upper Bracket, while Gabriel Nassif and Seth Manfield had to battle in the Lower Bracket.

Paulo took care of business early on Sunday, knocking Marcio to the Lower Bracket. There, Marcio defeated Seth Manfield (who had taken out Gabriel Nassif) for a Grand Finals rematch. Paulo would have to win two matches to secure the title while Marcio would need to take three. Paulo took the first while Marcio battled back and took the next two matches. That set up a pivotal fourth – and decisive – match. Paulo took the first game and Marcio kept a questionable hand in the second. A few turns later and it was all over. For Marcio Carvalho, another Worlds final; for Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa, a World Championship.
