This past weekend, Oklahoma City played host to the penultimate MagicFest of 2019. The main event was a Standard Grand Prix that featured just over 340 competitors on Day One with Simic Flash and Jund Sacrifice – the standout decks from the most recent Mythic Championship – ending up as the most popular options. The end of Saturday saw Mythic Championship Top 8 competitor Alex Majlaton take down Hall of Famer Frank Karsten to emerge as the lone undefeated player. Both Karsten and Majlaton would go on to square off in the Top 8, with Majlaton emerging victorious. But it was a player on the other side of the bracket- Matt Carlson – who won the day. Piloting one of two copies of Jeskai Fires in the Top 8, Carlson defeated Matt Foreman to secure his second Grand Prix title and an invitation to the first Players Tour Finals.
