Even Nightmares need companions, apparently, and my preview card (thanks to Wizards of the Coast, as always) is here for them. While we are at it, why don’t we toss in Beasts, Cats, Elementals, and Dinosaurs, all of which fall under the umbrella of Kaheera, the Orphanguard.
Kaheera doesn’t ask the world of you – all it wants is to make sure this brood of diverse monsters finds a home. In order to have Kaheera as your companion, you give up playing Humans mainly, as well as random other 1-of types you would have otherwise played. In exchange, you get a lord that pumps your whole squad essentially in your opening hand, which is a powerful upside. Companion is going to make a big impact on every format, and while Kaheera isn’t the flashiest we’ve seen, it still offers a significant bonus for meetings its reasonable demands.
I recorded a video about it as well:
What do you think about Kaheera? Will you be playing it in decks that almost fit the bill already, and only needed to cut 1-2 creatures, or brewing completely new ones in order to take advantage of companion?
