Mardu has many powerful tools, but it can be tough to build your deck to stay competitive across the board. Depending on your metagame, perhaps making some adjustments to the deck building approach is the answer.
It’s not every day you see someone play a single copy of Outpost Siege in their main deck, let alone 3 copies. This is an excellent card in the midrange and control matchups as the potential for card advantage is tremendous. And if card advantage is what you’re into, why not throw 4 copies of Painful Truths into your deck for good measure?
The big sacrifice is the aggro matchup, although you still have tools there. Wild Slash is not as powerful as Fiery Impulse against creatures, but it does give you some reach. The other card that can give you quite a bit of reach? How about some copies of the long forgotten Exquisite Firecrafts?
You can fill out the rest of your deck with powerful creatures that take advantage of these spells. Monastery Swiftspear is a superlative card, as is Abbot of Keral Keep. Both of these cards are Legacy playable, so playing them in your Standard red deck is a pretty easy decision. Seeker of the Way is a decent way to mitigate the aggro matchup as the prowess is extremely likely to be turned on if it doesn’t die. It can also finish off an opponent quickly.
Having good mana to cast Crackling Doom, a powerful enough card for Jeskai to splash for it, is another nice Mardu bonus. Throw in some of the most powerful sideboard options in Standard (Surge of Righteousness, Self-Inflicted Wound, Radiant Flames, Hallowed Moonlight, Duress) and you have yourself a powerful deck.
