Eye of Ugin is still one of the most powerful lands in Legacy. Alongside Ancient Tomb, City of Traitors, and of course Eldrazi Temple, there are so many ways to make 2 mana on turn 1 and 4 mana on turn 2.
The creature base for Legacy Eldrazi is the same one you are familiar with. It starts with Eldrazi Mimic, which is the best way to get a truly explosive start. You’ll need an Eye of Ugin to fully nut draw someone, as there is no other way to deploy a hand full of Mimics on turn 1. Once you have several Mimics in play and an Eye ready to reduce costs next turn, the sky is the limit.
As you move up the curve, Matter Reshaper is the value card. There are going to be a number of matchups in Legacy where attrition will matter and the Reshaper will help to keep your card count up. Trading with Lightning Bolt may not feel great for any creature since you will be losing a mana advantage, but the Eldrazi deck creates so much mana that the extra card is well worth it.
Thought-Knot Seer is the payoff card. Being able to consistently cast a Seer on turn 2 is fantastic as it will immediately be out of Bolt or Abrupt Decay range, making it a formidable threat that also deprives your opponent of either their big threat, a combo piece, or answer to Seer.

Chalice of the Void can completely shut down a wide variety of archetypes that load up on cards like Lightning Bolt, Swords to Plowshares, Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain, Delver of Secrets, Thoughtseize, Dark Ritual, Sensei’s Divining Top, Reanimate, Elves, and many more.
Now, an Eldrazi Temple or an Eye of Ugin won’t actually help you cast a Chalice on 1 on turn 1, but with 4 Ancient Tombs and 4 City of Traitors, you can nearly win the game against a variety of decks on turn 1. Storm, Elves, or Delver may never be able to cast a single spell for the entirety of the game, and for other decks, shutting down all their 1mana card draw is crippling.
The other great prison element is Thorn of Amethyst. This card is nearly one sided as the majority of your cards are creatures. Players will definitely keep a wide variety of 1 land hands with cards like Brainstorm, Ponder, and Sensei’s Divining Top. If you don’t have turn-1 Chalice to shut them off, a turn 1 Thorn can lock them out as well.
And if locking people from casting spells is up your alley, Eldrazi just happens to get to play 4 copies of Wasteland as a land that taps to cast all of its spells and still stunts the opponent!
The rest of the deck can be filled with various utility cards. Warping Wail actually kills many of the best creatures in Legacy such as Delver, Young Pyromancer, and Deathrite Shaman. Umezawa’s Jitte is another card that is too good to remain unbanned, but you can suit up your creatures to help win the fights in those same matchups.
You would think a colorless deck would struggle more after sideboard—how many options could there really be? The truth is that there are so many Legacy colorless sideboard options that the Eldrazi do not get weaker after game 1. With tons of ways to interact against the graveyard, some creature removal options, and powerful anti-combo like Sphere of Resistance, the Eldrazi and the Eye of Ugin have not gone quietly into the night by any stretch.
