Scanlan where do you get your hair done. I think I can see product in your hair. A little background would be great!!!

thanks for the outtakes, good info.

I remember an interview with Mark Rosewater on The Magic Show where he said something to the effect of: “We want Planeswalkeres to be such that you don’t have to ask yourself ‘is this good?’ when you open one. They might be narrow and only go in a very specific kind of deck [Tezzerator], but it is good.”
If you make a Planeswalker with 1 Loyalty and +1: Look at the top card of your library, you pretty much instantly undermine that and Planeswalkers stop being this special thing that you’re always happy to open.

Better than the last episode in formatting and also positive to see that most of the suggestions made (axe the timer, use a table) were taken advantage of.
Thumbs up!

“She’s there to protect, not destroy”
isn’t she there to slay some bane?
awesome show guys

Great show but Mashi’s planeswalker argument was pretty dumb in my opinion and got dragged out for far, far too long. I almost turned the episode off because he wouldn’t drop it.

I’m glad that you guys took away the timer, but at the same time, you should also be mindful to still regulate yourselves a little bit. Four minutes on whether or not there should be uncommon Planeswalkers was practically unbearable. Quite simply, both of you repeated your points over and over, “Don’t scare new players” versus “New players might as well learn sooner rather than later.” It’s silly to restate those points over and over, just acknowledge it and move on.
With that said, it was fun to watch and flowed a lot better without the timer, but just don’t get carried away!

Loved the outtakes but the best comment was at 1:20 “Sure, you can make bad planeswalkers.” -LSV

Amazing show. Extremely entertaining.
The debate : Planeswalkers : Mythic/Non Mythic is really important IMO.
If from now on Planeswalker are mythic, that does in some ways limit their power.
Why ?
Because if a Planeswalker is a mythic rare and becomes a tournament staple how much is it gonna cost ?
I mean Garruck was $25 and Adjani is $15 at regular rares.
Wizards needs to watch that very carefully.
A $50 Planeswalker might be pretty annoying to everyone, Pro players or not.

On the subject of the planeswalkers issue some have brought up, maybe it would be wise to bring a mediator of sorts to help pace the show. Maybe GerryT could do it wearing a judges/referee’s shirt.

Great show. I see Mashi’s point on the PWs, and potentially agree. But I too think that particular segment was a little long with no new ground.

Well one thing to keep in mind is when they first printed planeswalkers there wasn’t a mythic slot. So the question is would they have put them there if they came out in Shards instead of Lorwyn. I agree however that all planeswalkers that have come out since have been more $ maybe due to mythic status or due to people realizing there true power in the tournements. ie. Ajani Goldmane

Seriously guys, while I’m glad you axed the timer, the argument on Planeswalker rarity took WAAAAAAY too long. Less talking in circles, more relevant material next time.
Aside from that, very well done! Keep it up, guys.

agree with above about mashi’s overlong planeswalker argument. he’s way off base here.
good show anyway!

Thanks for all the feedback, it really helps us to hone the show.
After watching the show, I definitely agree that the PW argument went on too long. It’s easy to lose track of how long and repetitive the argument gets when you’re filming.
I still think there’s a place out there for non-mythic planeswalkers, not common per se, but rares and uncommons. Maybe a Jace, Wizard Apprentice or something like that. Of course if we go that far, why not a Norrin, the Wary common PW . . .
I’d also love to see a colorless Karn, the Silver Golem Artifact Planeswalker too.
Thanks again for all the comments, keep them coming!

@Mashi
I totally agree with your argument for non-Mythic Planeswalkers. I re-joined the game after many years at an FNM draft of S/S/C and in one of the games, my opponent played a Sarkhan Vol. I had no idea what it was and the player explained it to me just in time for him to play Sarkhan’s ultimate and blow my face off.
I was more than a little pissed off that I was coming back to a game with such broken cards. And then to make it worse, the good Planeswalkers were going for at least $20! I play the game casually, and still do despite any negative experiences, but since I only put casual money into the game, I still to this day, 6 months later, do not own a Planeswalker card. Not a single one. Where I play, Planeswalkers are First Picks in drafts, and all I do is draft, but I haven’t seen one yet.
I just wanted to agree with Mashi that Planeswalkers at Non-Mythic rarities would be in MTG’s best interest.
@LSV
On the other side, I think Luis’ argument for Mythic-Planeswalkers was severly lacking any ground to stand on. No Planeswalkers for noobs? Why the freak not? If anything, if I had pulled a Planeswalker in the very first pack of Shards I ever opened, that alone would have solidified my return to the game faster than anything. I would have said to myself “what is this?” and then immediately sought the answer. It’s not difficult for a kid that can get to a Wal-Mart and crack a pack of Magic to Google “Wizards of the Coast”, find their way to the Magic main page and see the GIANT image of Jace casting a spell right in their face with the words “Discover the Planeswalkers.” Come on. You have to do better than that.
No offense to LSV intended! I think you do a great job on this site! I just see the topic from the other angle.
