Over TWO DECADES Magic has been going strong, and today, it is bigger than ever. The game continues to grow and grow and grow. It's really amazing. It's amazing to have security as a gamer—security that the game we love, the game we put everything into, the game I live for and make my living from WILL be around.

You know what I think it is? New cards. Probably obviously (probviously?). If the format is imbalanced, the next set will patch it. If the format gets stale, the next set will patch it. You can leave the game and come back years later and it is FRESH. Or you could never leave the game and before you have time to get bored—FRESH AGAIN.

And here we are in Brewer's Paradise once again as DRAGON'S MAZE is unleashed!

Dragon's Maze Combo

This new set is incredibly exciting. It isn't a ton of cards. Not every card will contend at the tournament level. But there are some cards in there that have INSANE implications, and my mind is already racing. Let's not wait. Let's get started!

All right, this card is insane. I need to build combo Elves.

Modern Combo Elves

[deck]4 Arbor Elf
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Joraga Treespeaker
4 Nettle Sentinel
4 Heritage Druid
3 Elvish Visionary
4 Elvish Archdruid
1 Lys Alana Huntmaster
1 Ant Queen
1 Craterhoof Behemoth
1 Regal Force
4 Beck and Call
3 Intruder Alarm
1 Cloudstone Curio
3 Summoner's Pact
4 Forbidden Orchard
4 Verdant Catacomb
4 Misty Rainforest
2 Breeding Pool
1 Temple Garden
3 Forest
1 Dryad Arbor
1 Gavony Township[/deck]

THIS. DECK. IS GOING TO BE. SOO MUCH FUN!

Seriously. I love combo Elves. And this version has so many cool things going on.

The first is Beck, obviously. Beck is like [card]Glimpse of Nature[/card] for an extra blue mana. That's still potentially really insane working alongside the mana engine of [card]Nettle Sentinel[/card] and [card]Heritage Druid[/card].

[draft]Forbidden Orchard
Dryad Arbor[/draft]

Yes, these lands actually draw with Beck.

[draft]Intruder Alarm[/draft]

Yes, these lands also untap your mana army with [card]Intruder Alarm[/card]. And yes, [card]Intruder Alarm[/card] is bonkers with Beck.

Wait… [card]Intruder Alarm[/card] is also bonkers with CALL! OMG. Using Intruder Alarm to get up to 4UW or 4UUWG is believable and a potential instakill.

I can't wait to churn through my deck, tapping and untapping my mana army, supersizing my mana army, and attacking for 10 billion.

There are so many weird ways to go off turn 3 with this deck. Imagine this start:

[draft]Joraga Treespeaker[/draft]

Turn 1
[card]Joraga Treespeaker[/card] off of fetch/[card]Breeding Pool[/card].

Turn 2
[card]Forbidden Orchard, level [card]Joraga Treespeaker[/card].

(Mediocre start so far.)

Turn 3
Tap [card]Breeding Pool[/card] and [card]Joraga Treespeaker[/card] for Intruder Alarm.
Tap [card]Forbidden Orchard[/card]. GGG in pool.
Fetch for [card]Dryad Arbor[/card]. GGGGG in pool.

[draft]Ant Queen[/draft]

[card]Summoner's Pact[/card] for [card]Ant Queen[/card].
Untap Joraga Treespeaker and make infinite Ants turn 3!

It's possible [card]Ant Queen[/card] should be [card]Jade Mage[/card]. [card]Jade Mage[/card] wouldn't win in this situation but would win in lots of situations [card]Ant Queen[/card] wouldn't.

[draft]Lys Alana Huntmaster[/draft]

[card]Lys Alana Huntmaster[/card] works as a 4-mana [card]Ant Queen[/card], a tutorable second Beck mid-combo, and [card]Pyroclasm[/card] insurance. It's possible there should be more than 1 of this card.

Modern Combo Robots

[deck]4 Beck and Call
4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Signal Pest
3 Disciple of the Vault
3 Glint Hawk
3 Arcbound Ravager
4 Frogmite
2 Genesis Chamber
2 Kuldotha Rebirth
4 Cranial Plating
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Mox Opal
4 Inkmoth Nexus
3 Gemstone Mine
4 Glimmervoid
4 Darksteel Citadel[/deck]

Play this:

Play these:

[draft]Memnite
Ornithopter[/draft]

Draw cards. Play these:

[draft]Frogmite
Glint Hawk[/draft]

Draw cards. Play THESE:

[draft]Genesis Chamber
Kuldotha Rebirth[/draft]

DRAW. CARDS.

Kill with these:

[draft]Arcbound Ravager
Disciple of the Vault
Cranial Plating[/draft]

Nothing more to see here. Move along!

Modern All-In Combo Robots

[deck]4 Beck and Call
4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Disciple of the Vault
2 Glint Hawk
4 Arcbound Ravager
4 Frogmite
4 Genesis Chamber
3 Kuldotha Rebirth
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Mox Opal
3 Forbidden Orchard
4 Gemstone Mine
4 Glimmervoid
4 Darksteel Citadel[/deck]

Turn 1 land.

Turn 2 land, [card]Genesis Chamber[/card].

Turn 3 Beck.

[card]Memnite[/card]. Draw 2.

[card]Ornithopter[/card]. Draw 2.

[card]Glint Hawk[/card]. Draw 4.

[card]Mox Opal[/card], [card]Kuldotha Rebirth[/card]. Draw 3.

[card]Frogmite[/card]. Draw 2.

[card]Simian Spirit Guide[/card], [card]Springleaf Drum[/card].

[card]Glint Hawk[/card]. Draw 4.

[card]Mox Opal[/card], [card]Simian Spirit Guide[/card], [card]Arcbound Ravager[/card]. Draw 2.

Sac [card]Mox Opal[/card]. [card]Mox Opal[/card], [card]Disciple of the Vault[/card].

ETC. ETC. ETC.

[card]Cranial Plating[/card] and [card]Signal Pest[/card] are great and all, but why bother letting the opponent untap? Why not just kill turn 3? Or maybe even turn 2?

Now let's look at Standard.

[draft]Omniscience[/draft]

Alright, I NEED to put [card]Omniscience[/card] into play.

Omni-Aid 01 “Unrealistic”

[deck]4 Faithless Looting
4 Izzet Charm
4 Chromatic Lantern
4 Unexpected Results
4 Obzedat's Aid
4 Unburial Rites
3 Omniscience
3 Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker
3 Griselbrand
3 Borborygmos Enraged
24 Rainbow Lands[/deck]

We need to fill the graveyard, so let's try out these:

[draft]Faithless Looting
Izzet Charm[/draft]

If we're going to be drawing and pitching, how about these?

[draft]Unburial Rites
Griselbrand
Borborygmos Enraged[/draft]

And if we're going to be playing all that AND this:

[draft]Nicol Bolas, planeswalker[/draft]

We might as well roll the dice with these =D

[draft]Unexpected Results[/draft]

Yeah, this deck is going to be unbelievably fun.

I want to try this version too:

Omni-Aid 02 “Realistic”

[deck]4 Faithless Looting
4 Mulch
4 Grisly Salvage
4 Chromatic Lantern
4 Obzedat's Aid
4 Unburial Rites
3 Omniscience
3 Griselbrand
3 Borborygmos Enraged
3 Angel of Serenity
24 Rainbow Lands[/deck]

[card]Mulch[/card] and [card]Grisly Salvage[/card] seem like great ways to hit land drops and fill the graveyard as well, and this version will have much better mana, because it doesn't rely on early-game blue mana. This version might be more realistic, but I'm reluctant to play without the rush of [card]Unexpected Results[/card].

What if we go all in?

Omni-Aid 03 “All-In Unrealistic”

[deck]4 Faithless Looting
4 Izzet Charm
4 Mulch
3 Grisly Salvage
4 Chromatic Lantern
4 Unexpected Results
4 Obzedat's Aid
4 Omniscience
4 Increasing Ambition
1 Enter the Infinite
1 Borborygmos Enraged
23 Rainbow Lands[/deck]

Now this is what I'm talking about! If we're gonna go big, let's GO BIG! What if we just hope for the best and kill them turn 4 or 5 every turn?

This version has LOTS of search.

[draft]Faithless Looting
Izzet Charm
Mulch
Grisly Salvage
Increasing Ambition[/draft]

ONE way to play.

[draft]Omniscience[/draft]

And a one-shot finish:

[draft]Increasing Ambition
Enter the Infinite
Borborygmos Enraged[/draft]

What happens if [card]Enter the Infinite[/card] or [card]Borborygmos Enraged[/card] get milled? It's called “All-In Unrealistic” for a reason.

*Rainbow Lands*

Yes, actually making the mana base for these decks is gonna be tough. The mana might be egregious, but the expectation is that if we have all shock and buddy lands and 4 [card]Chromatic Lantern[/card], we'll get there if we try more often than not.

All right, moving on—[card]Notion Thief[/card].

Who else is thinking what I'm thinking?

Notion Thief Featuring Worldfire

[deck]4 Delver of Secrets
3 Snapcaster Mage
4 Goblin Electromancer
4 Notion Thief
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
2 Whispering Madness
4 Reforge the Soul
4 Faithless Looting
2 Spelltwine
2 Worldfire
23 Lands[/deck]

I want to shout out Derek Adams for putting out the shell of this deck. He has been beating me once a weak with a UR Delver deck featuring [card]Spelltwine[/card]/[card]Worldfire[/card] shenanigans. So when I saw Notion Thief I figured I would try it here.

[draft]Reforge the Soul
Whispering Madness[/draft]

Discard your hand, I draw 14?

[draft]Spelltwine
Worldfire[/draft]

Are we done?

Notion Thief Featuring Past in Flames

[deck]4 Goblin Electromancer
4 Notion Thief
4 Faithless Looting
4 Krenko's Command
4 Lingering Souls
4 Battle Hymn
2 Whispering Madness
4 Reforge the Soul
3 Past in Flames
3 Burn at the Stake
24 Lands[/deck]

What's a man/woman to do with a fresh grip of 14 cards?

What about this?

[draft]Krenko's Command
Lingering Souls[/draft]

Into this?

[draft]Battle Hymn[/draft]

Into THIS?

[draft]Past in Flames[/draft]

Back to this?

[draft]Reforge the Soul[/draft]

KAPOW!

[draft]Burn at the Stake[/draft]

The point is, making your opponent pitch their hand and drawing 14 cards is really, really unfair. Beyond that point all we have to do is figure out what to do with the 14 cards. Hmm.

Dragon's Maze Combo

My heart is pounding! Really, it is. I can't wait for Dragon's Maze to come out online. I love Fogdoor, but man, I am itching to play with some of these new cards. All kinds of doors have been opened to new combo decks in Standard and Modern, and I want to be the first through them.

Questions! Comments! Think there's something I forgot?

P.S. *These decks are UNTESTED!*

This means the numbers aren't necessarily right. This also means YOU could be the first one to actually play games with this deck TONIGHT. I am waiting for the cards to come onto Magic Online myself.
